Getting to Know Kyrstin “KJ” Johnson
Kyrstin Johnson is a standout collegiate gymnast whose journey is defined by resilience, power, and a passion for inspiring others. She began her collegiate career at Talladega College in 2023, where she immediately made history as part of the first-ever HBCU women’s gymnastics team. Her freshman year laid the foundation for everything that followed. Kyrstin quickly rose to national attention, earning multiple All-American honors and becoming the first HBCU gymnast to win a USAG national vault title, capturing gold along with silver on floor and bronze in the all-around.
Her success and growing influence propelled her to Temple University, where she continues to compete at the Division I level. At Temple, Kyrstin has become known for her powerful tumbling, expressive choreography, and her now-viral 2025 floor routine that gained national media coverage. She has earned numerous recognitions including Collegiate Gymnast of the Year, Athlete of the Week, Specialist of the Week, and a career-high 9.9 on floor—twice.
Beyond competition, Kyrstin embraces her role as a creator, entrepreneur, and role model. She has collaborated with major brands, launched her own company KJ Flips, LLC, and became an author of a children’s book inspired by her gymnastics beginnings. In 2025, she was honored with DJ Jon Quick’s Young Trailblazer Award for her impact on youth and the gymnastics community.
Every part of Kyrstin’s journey—from Talladega to Temple—reflects her commitment to excellence, faith, and inspiring young athletes to believe in their own dreams. She is not just flipping her way through collegiate gymnastics; she is building a legacy.
